Last week, the Neighbourhood Justice Centre had the pleasure of hosting Miski Awad for the day. Miski is a Youth Trainee with the Multicultural Partnerships Team at Yarra City Council, and she joined us to learn more about the work of the NJC.
Throughout the day, Miski connected with staff from across the Centre, gaining insights into the diverse services and programs that make up our community justice model. She met with team members from crime prevention, registry, community correctional services, and Carringbush Adult Education, learning how each contributes to delivering fair, effective, and inclusive justice.
Miski also had the opportunity to observe a site visit and join a meeting with the CEO of Collingwood Children’s Farm—experiencing firsthand the NJC’s commitment to strong local partnerships.
Reflecting on her experience, Miski shared:
“Visiting the NJC was a truly eye-opening experience that deepened my understanding of the community justice system. Going in, I had only a vague idea of what community correctional work and registry entailed, but I left with a much clearer picture and a newfound appreciation for the people who do this work every day. The insights I gained and the connections I made have left a lasting impression on me.”
It was a pleasure to host Miski and share with her the work we do here at the NJC. We wish her all the best in her traineeship and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate.
